103 years since the club was granted the title of Real!!
On 29 June 1920, King Alfonso XIII granted Madrid the right to use the name.
King Alfonso XIII bestowed the title of 'Real' upon Madrid on 29 June 1920. He did so by means of a letter sent to the club's president, Pedro Parages, by the Mayordomía Mayor of the monarch, granting the club the right to use this title, which read: "His Majesty the King (q.D.g.), has been most graciously pleased to grant the Title of Real, to this Football Club of which you are the worthy President, which may henceforth be placed before its name. I hereby inform you of this by Royal order for your knowledge and consequent effects".
This concession allowed the club to bear the royal crown on its coat of arms and, from that year onwards, the Madrid Football Club was renamed Real Madrid Football Club.
