“The Return Gift (Arrest and Deportation of Roshan Ansari)” continues…
He said Roshan’s location in Mumbra had been ascertained and it was time to move in. Virendra had to give up on his family outing and rush. He asked Shukla to hold his horses as it was not prudent for the CBI to raid Roshan’s premises without the local police.
Inspector Morey met the Officer-in-Charge of Mumbra Police Station who was far from co- operative. He wanted to know how and why the CBI team ventured into his jurisdiction without his knowledge. Shukla informed Virendra, still on his way to Mumbra, of the reluctance on the part of local police to help. Virendra, in-turn, called up a senior police official supervising the area. Shockingly, he too sang the same tune as the Officer-in-Charge of the Police Station. Virendra had to tell him that it was better if he took a positive decision in the matter at his own level. In case he didn’t, Virendra would have to bring the matter to the notice of Director, CBI. The obvious consequence would be the Director calling up the Commissioner of Police, Thane, who then would instruct the local police to do exactly what they ought to be doing themselves. Fortunately, good sense prevailed on the senior police officer and he instructed the Officer–in- Charge, Mumbra to provide local support to the CBI team immediately.
A joint team of Mumbra Police and the CBI headed by Inspector Morey raided the ‘chawl’, which Roshan had been seen entering. Roshan was apprehended and taken out after some resistance from her and her family members. Lady Inspector Jyotsna Raasam of the CBI and a couple of lady constables from the Mumbra Police Station had to deal with her firmly as, initially, she denied being Roshan. When she was shown her photograph received from Dubai and other documentation, she gave in. Soon she and her five-year-old daughter were driven out of the sensitive area of Mumbra in a CBI vehicle.
It was past midnight when Virendra informed me that Roshan had been apprehended.
