“The Return Gift (Arrest and Deportation of Roshan Ansari)” continues…
I asked him to proceed to the International Terminal straightaway. We had to try and put her and her daughter on the first flight to Dubai to face legal action there. Taking her to our office or any police premises was fraught with risks. Soon a lawyer would appear on the scene with her family members and well-wishers in toe to raise a hue and cry. Also, I decided not to wake up the CBI bigwigs lest they got into legalities and official formalities. The best strategy was to serve everyone a fait accompli. We had a Deportation Order from the Government of India and that was good enough to empower us to send her off. I told Virendra that if there was any flak later, I would take full responsibility.
The CBI team with Roshan and her daughter were on their way to the Airport. Roshan had calmed down and accepted that she had indeed murdered her stepdaughter and fled Dubai. Luckily for us, an Emirates flight was scheduled to leave Mumbai for Dubai at 5 AM in the morning. We had two major problems at hand: passports and tickets. The passports of Roshan’s and her daughter’s were not recovered. Virendra was in touch with the immigration authorities at the airport to find a way out. In the meantime, Roshan disclosed to the CBI team that she had hidden them at her uncle’s place in Ghatkopar (West).
Immediately, DSP Shukla left for Ghatkopar with a small team and succeeded in locating her uncle’s place in the dead of night and recovering the passports. With one issue behind the team, the next big problem was to arrange tickets for her and her daughter. I called up Brig. A of Dubai. I was aware that he was associated with Emirates Airlines Security and could help. When I phoned him, he was in London. My call woke him up as he was already asleep. He assured me that the tickets would be arranged and the Emirates Airlines staff at Mumbai would extend every possible help.
To be continued…
