Feeling like you finally had sleep nailed coming into toddler hood and then the 15-18month regression hit?
Around this age, your baby may be walking, trying to run, squat, throw and assert some independence. They also be having bursts in their vocabulary - the cutest part! There is so much development going on, which means their brains are also going a million miles a minute learning and consolidating all their new skills. Unfortunately, sometimes this comes with some sleep disturbance too. Things you may see during this regression;
1 Separation anxiety peaking again, due to your little ones emotional development. You may find you have a clingy little koala, toilet breaks are impossible and your frustrating may amp up just a wee bit.
3 Nap and / or bedtime battles are common around this time too, often because your baby needs some extra cup filling and 1:1 time as well as their little minds running a million miles an hour - especially if you have been apart for the day due to work, daycare etc. Don't hesitate to add a little time to your wind down in this case, some quiet play or an extra book.
3 Early rising - this is very common when in hand with other sleep problems simply due to bub being tired - we've been fighting sleep all day mumma! Also frequent night wakes, catnapping & split nights. You may see split nights in times of development and learning new skills because babies like to wake up & practice.
4 Your babys feeding patterns may change. This could mean more or less solids / milk than before. Insert FOMO. Walking is so much better than toast!
5 Your baby may appear fussy, easily upset, irritable or easily frustrated during this phase. Often these big feelings come with trying to do things independently OR you're helping them when they want to do it.
6 Changes to their sleep needs - this is the most common time we see the 2-1 nap transition. With this you may see resistance to sleep, skipping naps and even extended awake times.
