India pacer Mohammad Shami has provided his fans with an update on his injury on social media. Shami has remained on the sidelines since his impressive spell at the ICC ODI World Cup last year.
The fast bowler underwent surgery on his heel last month and is expected to be out of competitive cricket for a while.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently made a statement that Mohammad Shami is currently being monitored by the medical team. In their recent medical update, the board mentioned that Shami will miss the entirety of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.
This is likely going to be a big miss for Gujarat Titans where the Indian speedster scalped 28 wickets last season. Shami played an important role in spearheading Gujarat's bowling attack while also bagging the Purple Cap last year. His brilliance was enough to help his side reach the final for a second consecutive time. Though MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings just proved to be too strong in the ultimate game at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Mohammad Shami has missed both the South Africa tour and the recently concluded five-match Test series against England due to injury. It was also announced by BCCI secretary Jay Shah that Shami will not be travelling to the United States for the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held this year. The Indian speedster is not touted for a return to international duty until India's Test series against Bangladesh in September 2024.
Mohammad Shami was a force to be reckoned with at the 2023 World Cup. He finished the campaign as the top wicket-taker with 24 scalps.
