Night of shame continues……
Respectfully, I asked her, ‘Madam, what is it that you hold against me? I invited you to my daughters’ weddings and you most graciously attended both. We as a family have called on you and you were so nice to us. You too have been to our house for get-togethers. Suddenly, what has happened that you want me out?’
‘You have taken action against only constables and head constables and none against senior officers,’ she mumbled.
‘Who told you that I have taken action against lower subordinates? No such thing has happened. Why should I take any penal action against anyone? Because they have solved the case, because they arrested the accused? If I had touched any one of my people, who would work on the case?’ I retorted.

He highlighted the good work done by the police in the case thus far and assured everyone that the remaining accused would be arrested shortly. But the reporters would have none of it. They wanted to know when the commissioner of police would be sacked. The lieutenant governor told them that there was no reason for the government to remove me. He generously pointed out that the person whose blood they were baying for had distinguished himself throughout his career with his good work, and the question of sacking him did not arise.
