The 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit commenced in New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed world leaders to Bharat Mandapam. Among the dignitaries present were US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and others. Prime Minister Modi is chairing the Summit.
In his remarks at the first session titled ‘One Earth,’ PM Modi emphasized the critical nature of the current global situation. He noted that the post-Covid world is grappling with a trust deficit, further deepened by conflicts. PM Modi stressed that the world is facing age-old problems seeking solutions and emphasized the need to fulfill responsibilities with a human-centric approach.
During his speech, PM Modi extended his condolences for the loss of lives in a recent earthquake in Morocco and offered India’s readiness to provide all possible assistance to Morocco during this difficult time.
The first day of the Summit includes two sessions: ‘One Earth’ and ‘One Family.’ Several bilateral meetings are expected to take place, including with the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, and Italy. PM Modi will also host a working lunch, while President Droupadi Murmu will host a state dinner for the visiting dignitaries.
G20 Presidency Theme: ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’
India’s G20 Presidency theme, ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – One Earth, One Family, One Future,’ is positioned as a global roadmap for sustainable, inclusive, and human-centric development. President Murmu expressed her wishes for the success of the Summit’s participants in realizing this vision.
