Low Taek Jho is our protagonist in Man on The Run and he is that man on the run. When I read Jho Low (he is called so by the world) is behind the production of Wolf of Wall Street, the Oscar-nominated Martin Scorsese film, the shrewd and over-smart stock broker Belfort again threw a wicked smile at me. I can never forget this character and Leonardo DiCaprio who gave life to him on the silver screen. Jho Low-Belfort connect is strange but true. Both were in the money market and experts in embezzlement. Strikingly, Jho Law was a global player. His partner in crime was former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak!

Netflix’s true crime docu-film Man on the Run narrates the infamous 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad) scam rated by the FBI as the largest kleptocracy case to date. Director Cassius Michael Kim neatly handles the nitty-gritty of this international scam-a former prime minister and his wife, bankers, financial middlemen from across the globe, diplomats, and to spice it up Hollywood celebs who lavishly partied and took money for their appearances and earned expensive gifts from Jho Low, the mastermind behind this power game.
1MDB –a sovereign wealth fund scheme originates part of the 1Malasia political campaign run by the then prime minister Najib Razak aimed to invest in foreign projects and bonds to utilize its benefits to improve the welfare of Malaysians. He sought foreign funds to run IMDB. GCC countries came up first. Jho Low, a wealthy Chinese Malaysian and investment dealer enters the scene and begins controlling the flowing funds. Billions of dollars went into the personal accounts of Najib and Jho. All middlemen including American investment firms and bankers become super rich and 1MDB ends up in huge debt.
Anwar Ibrahim, the current prime minister of Malaysia, an opposite leader then fought against Najib and took him down after some smart investigative journalists leaked critical information. Interesting to watch the pretended innocence of Najib in the docu team’s interview who is sentenced for years. Jho Low is a fugitive now.

I found Man on the Run very fact-oriented and impartial in its presentation.
