Impact on India continues....
Bloodied in the battlefields of Afghanistan, the new age terrorists are capable of taking on professional armed forces. They
are trained operatives in the hit-and-run tactics the Taliban employs against the NATO forces. These groups would come prepared to take over the terrorist operations in Kashmir and other
parts of India.
Exploiting the local support, they could set up training camps in Kashmir’s forested hills and carry out small wave attacks to engage the Indian forces but without inviting international scrutiny or sanction. The situation and the sentiments are likely to be exacerbated by Pakistan and radical elements, including al Qaeda, so as to prepare the ground for a firm foothold in Kashmir. The Valley, then, could witness a new wave of recruitment and training. Such developments sit well with Pakistan’s overall plan to ‘extract’ Kashmir out of India by a Hamas-style takeover of the state. Realising that it has failed to
push India into accepting a ‘solution’ on issues like Siachen and Kashmir, Pakistan is poised to take the ongoing jihad into its next phase. The 2014 drawdown might be a starting block.
