“The Return Gift (Arrest and Deportation of Roshan Ansari)” continues…
My friends in the Dubai Police laid out the red carpet for us and two officials – Brig. A and Maj. M (Their names are withheld as I don’t have their permission to reveal them) - who had assisted us in getting Aftab Ansari and Raju Anadkat back, went out of their way to look after us. Our Ambassador KC Singh was equally kind to us and at his hospitable best. The memory of an evening he and his gracious wife hosted for us at the beautiful Emirates Golf Club is still fresh in our minds. We returned home in less than a week after a most memorable holiday.
I was beginning to just about settle down in the Delhi Police in my new job as Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) when a call from the Dubai Police was to involve me yet again in a CBI operation. On April 2, 2002 Maj. M of the Dubai Police called me to say that a lady of Indian origin namely Roshan Ansari, married to a Dubai Sheikh, had escaped to Mumbai from Dubai, after murdering her grown up step-daughter Muna Ahmed. Apparently, the stepmother and the stepdaughter had a running feud with each other that was getting intolerable for Roshan. On April 1, 2002, the lady could take it no more and, in a fit of rage, killed the young girl. She buried the dead body in the storeroom of the victim’s house with the help of three Indian expatriates and a Bangladeshi national.
The murder made headlines in the Dubai media and the Dubai Police were under tremendous pressure to arrest the accused. They had succeeded in nabbing the three Indians and the Bangladeshi but the prime accused Roshan Ansari had made good her escape by fleeing to her country of origin. The Dubai authorities wanted the Indian Police to arrest and send her back.
