India has made winning start on Day 3 of Tokyo Olympics 2021 as Bhavani Devi, the first Indian fencer to qualify for the Olympics, defeated Tunisia's Nadia Azizi 15-3 in women's individual Sabre event but she failed to overcome world number 4 Manon Brunet of France in round of 32 match.
India's experienced paddler Sharath Kamal won his men's singles match (2-11, 11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9) against Portugal's Tiago Apolonia and advances to next round. He will play against one of Table Tennis' all time greats, China's Ma Long in his next match.
Sajan Prakash, who became the first Indian swimmer to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, failed to qualify for the semi-finals. He finished 24th overall. Also, boxer Ashish Kumar crashed out in the round of 32 match.
