At least 150 medical colleges in the country are most likely to lose their recognition of the National Medical Commission, India's regulatory body for medical education and professionals.
According to reports, these colleges would lose recognition or have inadequate faculty and non-compliance with rules.
Also, around 40 medical institutions have already lost their recognition. They will now have to prove it to the NMC that the prescribed standards are being followed in the respective institutions.
According to reports, the colleges that lost NMC's recognition are located in various states including Gujarat, Assam, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Tripura and West Bengal.
As per an NDTV report, the deficiencies of the above-mentioned colleges were revealed during an inspection carried out by the Undergraduate Medical Education Board of the Commission for over a month, in which they looked into CCTV cameras, lapses in Aadhar linked biometric attendance procedures and the faculty rolls.
