40 years unmatched after winning the 1983 World Cup, Kapil's passion made him the world champion for the first time
If anyone is asked, the most beautiful moment in the history of Indian cricket was becoming the world champion on 25 June 1983. On the same day at Lord's, India became world champions by defeating two-time world champions West Indies by 43 runs. This victory was the confidence of the Indian team, which did not allow the West Indies team full of fanatics to score even 183 runs. All the players of the team contributed a lot. And the great Kapil Dev, the legend cricketer and captain of the 83 team, did the work of enthusing them. Veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar considers this day to be the best day in his life. He once said on a public platform – If I get two minutes in my last moments, I would like to die watching the video of the World Cup taken by Kapil at Lord's in 1983.
This victory was also special because everyone considered the Indian team as underdogs because in the two World Cups played earlier, the team had won only one match, that too from East Africa. After defeating the West Indies in the first match in the World Cup 1983, the morale of the team increased. Every player performed on the spot. No one can forget the 175 made by Kapil against Zimbabwe in this World Cup. This innings completely changed cricket. It was from here that the country's cricket took a new direction. Street cricket started being played. It has been 40 years since the first world champion and there are two main reasons behind the speed at which cricket in India has grown in these four decades. 1983 World Cup victory and Sachin Tendulkar. Even though our national sport is hockey, cricket is above that. Cricket is played in the streets. IPL league is the most popular cricket league in the world. Today we come to the number one team in Tests and top three in ODIs.
