Deepavali is the biggest Hindu Festival — A Festival Of Lights. Many believe that It’s a single day event but that’s not true. Deepavali stretches for 5 days.
Yes, it extends over 5 days!
The 5 days of deepavali are Dhanteras, Naraka Chaturdashi, Laxmi Pujan, Govardhan Pujan and Bhaidooj/Vishwakarma Pujan respectively!
Now, each day has a significance of its own.
✨Dhanteras marks the first day of the festival and is considered to be an extremely auspicious day to buy or invest in something big like property, gold, luxury items etc.
✨The second day is Naraka Chaturdashi, also known as Choti Deepavali. It is believed that Lord Krishna annihilated an asur named narakasur.
✨The third day is Laxmi Pujan, also known as Deepavali, the night of Deepavali is considered as the darkest night hence lights and diyas are lit. On the day of laxmi pujan, it is believed that Goddess Laxmi (wife of lord vishnu) visits her devotees and followers and bestows health, wealth and prosperity upon them. It is the same day when Lord Rama along with Devi Sita and Lakshmana came back to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana.
✨The fourth day is Govardhan Pujan or Balipratipada. Balipratipada is celebrated to commemorate the return of Mahabali to earth.
✨The last day is Bhaidooj, a festival similar to Raksha Bandhan. The day is dedicated to the celebration of the bond between a brother and sister. This is how Deepavali ends.
It is a beautiful festival of celebration of love and relationships. People selflessly pray for the health and prosperity of their loved ones and I think there’s nothing more beautiful than praying and seeking blessings for your family.
