When the Colombian chose to separate ways in 2013, he had no shortage of top European suitors. However, freshly promoted AS Monaco, who had recently received a cash injection, came knocking, and Falcao couldn't say no.
He was bought for a then-club-record amount and reputedly earned around €16 million in net earnings each year.
Although Ligue 1 is not a huge step down right now, it was clearly a step below La Liga back then. Falcao could have stayed in Spain and played at the greatest level, but he opted to transfer to France.
The trade effectively ended the productive Colombian's career. He may have spent a season on loan at Manchester United and Chelsea from Monaco, but he has failed to make an impression since then. Rayo Vallecano, his new club in La Liga, has signed the 35-year-old.
#2 Hulk
Few footballers in the recent decade have got Hulk's pace, muscle, and devastating shot. Hulk, who played with Falcao at Porto, was equally important for the club's illustrious Europa League success under Andre Villas-Boas.
The Brazilian spent eight years in Europe, garnering praise for his consistency with Porto and Zenit St. Petersburg, where he scored 110 goals in 196 appearances. During this time, Hulk also participated in 49 matches for Brazil.
However, although still just 30 years old and fit for European football, the Brazilian accepted Shanghai SIPG's offer and transferred to China in 2016. Shanghai reportedly spent £45 million for Hulk's services, setting an Asian football record at the time.
Despite the hefty costs and payments involved in the transaction, his career was swiftly forgotten. Hulk is back in Brazil with Atletico Mineiro after four years in Shanghai, where he made 100 appearances for the Chinese team.
