The Democratic Republic of Congo reported 61 earthquakes in a 24-hour period near Mount Nyiragongo, which erupted a week ago. Seismologists explained the crater was in the process of collapsing, causing tremors and ash emissions. Around 400,000 people fled Goma following warnings about a second eruption. People have also been warned that the lava flowing below a lake could result in a limnic eruption, emitting toxic gases that cause asphyxiation.
