Sovereignty Under Siege continues…..
The Special Cell guys knew that that was the end of their vacation plans and they were all in for a long haul. They picked up their helmets, bulletproof jackets and their AKs and rushed to the spot. They were led by ACP Rajbir Singh, who headed a fine team of crack detectives that included inspectors Mohan Chandra Sharma, Hriday Bhushan, Lalit Negi, Sanjay Dutt, Govind Sharma, Badrish Dutt and many others.
The crime scene was a picture of chaos and confusion. There was worry that there could be a sixth terrorist in hiding somewhere inside the parliament complex. A couple of stray shots had been heard after the gun battle had ceased, giving rise to this speculation. When a long silence followed, those fears abated, and the security forces began to comb every nook and cranny of the Parliament House, both inside and outside the building. An all-clear sign was given after considerable time and people slowly began to emerge from hiding.
The National Security Guard (NSG) bomb squad had been summoned and on arrival they systematically examined the bodies of the terrorists, starting with Mohammad’s, which was lying near gate one. After removing hand grenades and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from his backpack, they allowed the Special Cell boys to carry out the remaining part of the search. Then they moved to Haider’s body, lying near gate five, and lastly, to the bodies of Raja, Rana and Hamza. Detectives from the cell followed suit, carrying out the body searches in the same order. The bodies were later identified by these names by other arrested co-accused, mainly Afzal Guru.
