“The Da Lakhvi Code” continues……
LeT is a deadly militant group, operating mainly from Pakistan. Some of its stated objectives are to ‘liberate’ Muslims residing in ‘Indian Kashmir’ and to bleed India through a ‘thousand cuts’ caused by terror attacks. Founded in 1987 by Hafiz Saeed et al. with funding from Osama bin Laden, its headquarters are in Muridke near Lahore. The attack on the Indian Parliament in 2001 and the Mumbai attacks of 2008 are believed to have been executed by LeT. The group has been declared a terrorist organization by the US, the UK, Australia, Russia and by the United Nations in 2008. It is widely believed that the LeT enjoys the patronage
of Pakistan’s main intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi was the mastermind of the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai and figures prominently on India’s most wanted list. His name figured in the confession of Ajmal Kasab, who was the only terrorist captured alive by the Mumbai Police following the Mumbai attacks. Lakhvi is referred to as ‘chachaji’ in Lashkar circles. Now to get back to our story of February 2003. What confirmed our fears of an imminent terror attack was an email we intercepted on 13 February, originating from stupaXX@ hotmail.com and sent to a new email ID, nehasingh1XX2@ hotmail.com, which came to our notice for the first time. It read:
