“The Return Gift (Arrest and Deportation of Roshan Ansari)” continues…
Virendra was keeping me informed of all developments. The pressure from the Dubai Police was mounting but all we could do was keep them in the loop and ask them to be patient. At a personal level, I got news that my father had taken seriously ill. On 22nd April I left Delhi and reached Patna, my home-town, to look after my ailing father. God bless mobile phones, I could continue to remain in touch with Virendra, even when sitting by my father’s bedside in the hospital, and speak to him (Virendra) whenever he needed to consult me.
It was already over twenty days of our being informed of Roshan Ansari’s escape to India from Dubai. Given that Aftab Ansari had been arrested within a day of our request and deported within ten days, we were not faring too well. But we did not lose heart and kept pursuing all possible leads.
The Mumbai landline number, which had been figured out after examining the call details of the Bangalore number, turned out to be that of Roshan’s maternal uncle. Roshan was calling this number frequently using different SIM cards, running from place to place. She travelled to Goa, Hyderabad followed by small towns in Maharashtra. All along we were keeping a tab on her movements using technical data but failed to nab her as her stay at any one place was always very brief. She knew she was being trailed and, therefore, kept running from place to place with her five year old daughter and escorted by her cousin Babu, while we kept following her.
A call was received on her maternal uncle’s phone from Roshan that she had run out of money and had no option but to return to Mumbai. She requested him to make some independent and safe arrangements for her stay in Mumbai. She didn’t wish to risk staying at her parents’ house in Ghatkopar (West).
To be continued…
