The Courts of Law usually come under harsh criticism or scrutiny for not being able to deliver justice to the aggrieved, be it due to enormous pendency of cases, or due to the sheer unwilling nature of the authorities concerned.
However, a look at any prominent daily newspaper reveals that the cases highlighted, are dealt in a speedy and efficient way, at every touchstone of the judicial system, be it the investigating agencies, or the judicial bodies.
That being said, a lot of cases go through the rigmaroles of the justice delivery system on a daily basis, and almost all of them do not find the limelight to project them into the nature of a real fast track case.
On the International Day of Elimination of Violence against Women, it begs to be highlighted, that 99.99% of the cases where violence/abuse against women take place find no place in the media, and even if some do, they are soon forgotten. The victims have to endure years of dilemma and be involved in the prosecution of the perpetrators, which in turn takes a huge toll on the mental and physical psyche of such victims.
This article is not to complain against any authority or organization. The establishment and the judiciary has taken great measures to provide justice and rehabilitation to the victims of such crimes, and steps are undertaken on almost a daily basis to bring awareness to the public and the training sessions are held with all vested parties regarding the various steps being taken for the same.
I have personally seen cases where high profile perpetrators are involved and the investigating agencies take eons in filing chargesheets and then supplementary chargesheets, resulting in no arrest, and consequently easy bails at the time when the matters come to courts. I have helped to prosecute cases where women have been impregnated by the perpetrators on false promises of marriage and have later fled. Such women are then forced to run from pillar to post to make sure that such perpetrators are taken into custody, are not released on bail while being heavily pregnant, and carrying the burden of an ill-wanted pregnancy.
