Presenting Symptoms;

• recently detected as hypothyroid (was on a low dose of thyroid meds)
• Knee and shoulder pain, cracked feet, was on painkillers
• Could not conceive, despite many rounds of hormone treatment

Investigation showed her inflammatory markers were positive, though she was not nutritionally deficient. her bloodwork showed that she was pre- diabetic. We removed the offending grains and gave her supplements to improve her gut health. Interestingly, she lost hardly any weight (just 4 kg), but her aches and pains were all resolved. Most important, she conceived within six months. her infertility issues had been reversed by dietary changes.

The Case of the ‘Imbalanced’ Businessman

Mr l., sixty-six, lived in south-east asia, and had developed diabetes fifteen years before. he had a range of other issues as well, of which the biggest was ataxia, which signifies an inability to coordinate one’s muscles when performing a voluntary movement; in his case, walking. It’s not a disease in itself, but a sign of an underlying medical problem.

Presenting Symptoms;

• diabetes
• reflux, candidiasis and low energy
• hearing problems, fungus-related nail problems
• ataxia, stiff shoulders, the beginning of arthritis

Investigation showed his anti-gliadin antibodies were positive, which revealed a gluten sensitivity. his celiac markers were negative. he had normal hb levels but vitamin d, b12 and magnesium levels were low and his Crp was elevated. But soon after he was put on a gluten- and dairy- free diet, many of the issues were resolved. he wasn’t closely monitored because he lived overseas and consulted infrequently but his blood sugar came down to normal and the ataxia improved significantly. his gait became more balanced and coordinated.
