For the last month, Leandro Trossard has filled in up front with Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah both struck down with injuries. When Arsenal signed the Belgian, it's not likely they would've expected him to have to step-up into the starting lineups so quickly, but he has coped exceptionally well.
He has brought back the best form from Gabriel Martinelli, who suffered a dry spell when playing alongside Nketiah. Likely due to Nketiah's willingness to stay in the middle, whereas Jesus and Trossard both like to drift across to the left.
He has displayed exceptional positional intelligence to slide into Mikel Arteta's system so seamlessly, and has put great numbers up too. In his last five starts, Trossard has assisted five goals and really should've had a goal of his own, had it not been disallowed for a miniscule foul by Ben White.
Trossard has given Arteta absolutely no reason to drop him. However, there is one slight issue. Gabriel Jesus is back.
It simply can't be forgotten that Jesus was exceptional before the World Cup. His ability to drift past defenders with ease is second to none, not just at Arsenal, but in the Premier League. His passing and movement constantly created opportunities for Arsenal and his pressing was ruthlessly relentless.
Perhaps an important factor in this decision lies in experience. Jesus has been here time and time again with Manchester City. He knows what it's like to lose it but more importantly he knows what it's like to win every game and win it.
He has scored in big games, title deciding games, for Manchester City. With ten games to go for Arsenal, can they afford to possibly lose out on that experience? This will be a part of the question Mikel Arteta will have to ask himself.
A game against Leeds at home could provide the perfect chance to give Gabriel Jesus his return to the starting lineup, but could be used to attempt to continue Trossard's good form also. A key decision lies before Mikel Arteta, one that will likely be the first of many before this season ends.
