This place is full of life
From the Gate No. 1 exit of Jama Masjid, there lies a narrow gali (lane) filled with the yummiest of eateries, Atar shops and masala stores known as Matia Mahal.
I first visited Matia Mahal along with my friends during the holy month of Ramzan back in 2017, the streets of Old Delhi were buzzing with people. More the time passed, the more crowded the streets became, and moving there without bumping into someone was impossible.
After my first visit I thought I'll never go into the crowded streets of Old Delhi, but the mouth watering food, and the rich history kept me going, and now whenever I want to taste the authentic dishes from the kitchen of the Mughals, I make sure to visit the Matia Mahal lane of the Jama Masjid.
Yesterday I again went there and talked to the people, the minds behind the most popular and amazing food joints in Matia Mahal, Jama Masjid. I was fortunate to get a chance to meet and talk about the history of the popular joints and the stories behind them, and about their signature dishes.
I'll be mentioning these stories in the coming days and talk about thes scrumptious food of these joints of Jama Masjid, and the history behind them.
You can also share your stories and experiences about the popular joints and the history of Old Delhi.
