A pledge taking ceremony was hosted by State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA) under the aegis of Department of Social Welfare, Chandigarh, at U.T., Secretariat, Chandigarh to observe National Adoption Awareness Month- November 2024. The Pledge was administered by Sh. Rajeev Verma, Adviser to the Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh in the presence of Secretaries, Senior Officers and all the officials of U.T. Chandigarh Secretariat. The Pledge was also taken by all the Departments of Chandigarh Administration including different Units, Boards, Societies and Corporations.

The National Adoption Awareness Month- November, 2024 is celebrated every year across India with an aim to generate awareness through disseminating information about safe and legal adoptions, to highlight the impact of permanent family based care for children and recognize adoptive parents’ remarkable role in giving children safe & loving homes. This year the theme of Adoption Month is “Foster Care and Foster Care leading to Adoption” wherein the focus is to promote adoption of older children.

Throughout November, a series of awareness programs will be carried out by the department to promote Legal Adoption and to raise awareness about Relative (In-Country & Inter-Country Adoption) & Step Parent adoption as well as punishment for illegal adoption which is imprisonment of 3-5 years and fine of Rs. 1 Lakh.
