Apollo befriended Admetos and saved him from a fated early death. But the condition was that someone had to take Admetos’s place. His parents refused, but his wife, Alcestis, has agreed to die instead of her husband. But Alcestis didn’t die, soon they arrived out of the palace with their children. Alcestis life was fading quicky. She made Admetos promise that he will never remarry and will take care of their children. To which Admetos said, he wouldn’t allow a woman to enter the palace.

Soon, Alcestis died in place of her husband.

It’s a great play, do watch it if you have the time.
