The Afghanistan Cricket Board has officially announced Shane McDermott as the Afghanistan National Team's new Fielding Coach. Set to join the team on February 1, McDermott brings extensive experience, holding a High-Performance Level Three Coaching Certificate and having worked with cricket teams such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Cricket Australia, Western Australia Cricket Association, and Cricket Tasmania.
Previously serving as Assistant Fielding Coach for the Bangladesh National Cricket Team since 2022 and holding the same role with the Sri Lankan Senior Men’s team from 2019-2021, McDermott's coaching journey includes roles during ICC events, including the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 and the ICC Men's T20I World Cup events in 2022 and 2021. This appointment follows the recent hiring of Andrew Puttick as the National Team’s Batting Coach, with further additions expected for Performance Analyst and S & C Trainer positions.
