The Afghanistan Cricket Board's Selection Committee has unveiled a 19-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against India, commencing on January 11 in Mohali. Despite undergoing recent back surgery, Rashid Khan, Afghanistan's regular T20I captain, has been included in the squad, but his participation remains uncertain.
Ibrahim Zadran, who led Afghanistan to a 2-1 series victory against the UAE, will continue to captain the side in Rashid Khan's potential absence. Mujeeb Ur Rahman makes a comeback to the squad, while Ikram Alikhil, previously a reserve against the UAE, has been promoted to the main squad as the backup wicketkeeper-batsman.
Mirwais Ashraf, Chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, expressed delight about the maiden tour to India and highlighted the team's growth, stating, "AfghanAtalan are no longer underdogs." The series, scheduled in Mohali, Indore, and Bengaluru, is anticipated to be highly competitive.
