After 3-year legal battle, Vishwakant Garg Appointed as Non-Judicial Member of Punjab State Consumer Commission
Chandigarh. Vishwakant Garg, the newly appointed non-judicial member of the Punjab State Consumer Commission, officially took charge on Wednesday and attended court on the same day.
Garg has a career spanning nearly 35 years with the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), where he started as an SDO and retired as Engineering-in-Chief in 2018. Prior to this role, he served as a non-judicial member of the Faridkot District Consumer Commission. He is an alumnus of Thapar College of Engineering, Patiala.
Garg said he would use his experience for the betterment of the people. He will try to get justice to the people as soon as possible in cooperation with Justice Daya Chaudhary, the chairman of the commission.
After a three-year legal battle, Garg achieved this position. His counsel, Aditya Grover, recounted how the Punjab government advertised the post of non-judicial member in the state commission three years ago. Reportedly, despite Garg topping the merit list, the government appointed the third candidate, prompting Garg to challenge the decision in the High Court. The High Court set aside the appointment, and the case eventually reached the Supreme Court, which ruled in Garg's favor.
On Wednesday, Garg reached the commission on the first day and also attended the court.
