After a scintillating victory parade to welcome the T20 champions team on Thursday evening in Mumbai, several fans had to go back home barefoot.
The grand celebrations to welcome Rohit Sharma and Co were held at the picturesque Marine Drive aka Queen's Necklace, the Nariman Point and the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
A sea of cricket fans gathered at Marine Drive in Mumbai until late last night to welcome the Indian cricket team after their victory in the T20 Cricket World Cup 2024.
However, the pre and post works after the celebrations turned out to be a gigantic task for the Mumbai Police and BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
During the celebrations, footwear were damaged or lost even as there were plastic water bottles thrown everywhere.
"After the welcome ceremony was over and the crowd dissipated, a special cleanliness drive was carried out through the BMC in the entire Marine Drive area throughout the night. The entire area was made available in a completely clean form for the Mumbaikars who regularly come to the Marine Drive area for their morning walk," the BMC officials said.
"Additional garbage was collected by filling two big dumpers and five small jeeps during this cleanliness drive on behalf of the BMC's Solid Waste Management Department," they said.
"The cleanup after such a grand event was a significant task, but BMC's dedicated team worked through the night to restore Marine Drive promptly. BMC's sanitation workers are the unsung heroes who work tirelessly to keep Mumbai clean! BMC is proud of their dedication and commitment. The acknowledgment means a lot," the BMC said, appreciating its team.
The Mumbai Police too appreciated the cops on duty. "It was one of its kind crowd and traffic management with mobs milling and spilling over everywhere, waiting with bated breath to salute the champions! But it was the Mumbai police that batted through the innings and won the day for us and the city," the Mumbai Police said.
