Akshay Kumar recently sat down for an interview with Aaj Tak where he spoke at length about his Canadian citizenship, his late mother, and also about Bollywood’s bad phase. In the same conversation, the actor was asked about his consecutive box office flop films reacting to which he accepted that it is his 100% fault. He further said that the audience has changed now for which one needs to dismantle themselves.
As some of his films did not do well at the box office, Akshay Kumar is struggling in his work. In 2023, the actor started his latest film Selfie, which hit theaters on February 2
. However, the film got off to a slow start and received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Before Selfie, Akki did not act in any successful movie in 2022.
In 2021, he appeared in the hit movie Sooryavanshi opposite Rohit Shetty and Katrina Kaif. Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh also made cameo appearances. Now, in his latest interview, he spoke openly about his past failures. "This is not happening for the first time for me," said Akshay Kumar about Aaj Taki Seedhi Baadi taking over the box office. I had 16 consecutive failures in my career. At one point I had eight failed films in a row. I have now had three or four failed films in a row. The point is that film ka na chalna (film does not work) happens because of your own carelessness. The audience has changed and you must change or perish. Because the audience wants to see something else, you have to start over.
He continued that it should be taken very seriously. To galti aapki hai, aapki movie Nahi chal rahi. If several of your movies fail, it's a sign that it's time for a change. Akshay Kumar said, "Mai koshish kar raha hun, wahi kar sakta hoon." He added: "Don't blame the public or anyone else." 100% it's my fault. Audience has nothing to do with Aapki movie na chalna. It's because of the choice you made. It is possible that the film lacks the right ingredients.
