Fulham's talisman Aleksandar Mitrovic has been handed an eight-match ban by the English FA following his disgraceful behaviour against the match referee Chris Kavanagh in the FA quarter-final match against Manchester United. Mitrovic pushed the referee after he received the red card in the match which they lost 3-1 but were leading the game for an ample amount of time.
He received a three-match ban after getting sent off in that match, but now he has received five extra bans. Three for violent conduct and an another two for "improper, abusive, insulting and threatening" language and he also received a £75,000 fine.
Fulham’s manager Marco Silva has also been handed a two-match ban after getting sent off. Silva threw a water bottle towards the assistant referee and also was charged with misconduct for his several comments at the press conference following the match. He admitted to have abused the match officials at the post-match conference but denied about throwing the water bottle.
Marco Silva also said last week that he had already apologised to Kavanagh and that he "regrets what happened" during the match. Mitrovic has already served one ban, but now with this new eight match ban decision will keep him out until the match against Southampton on 13 May.
Mitrovic apologised saying, “On a personal level, I regret my actions that led to me being sent off. I allowed my frustration to get the better of me, and how I reacted was wrong." Fulham have also received a £40,000 fine for failing to control their players. With several important matches coming up in the upcoming weeks, this ban of their most important player will be a huge loss for the London-based club. They are currently 10th in the Premier League and still are in contention for European qualification.
