An official said on Wednesday that two motorcycle riders were fined by the Mumbai Police for not wearing helmets while providing lifts to Bollywood actors Amitabha Bachchan and Anushka Sharma on city roads. A senior police official said, "Amitabh and Anushka both have been fined through their riders for bike rides without helmets on Mumbai roads." The fines were imposed in two separate incidents after social media users pointed out that the riders violated the helmet requirement. Exemplars of the challans issued on Tuesday against the drivers of both vehicles were posted on Twitter by the Mumbai Traffic Police. Recently, Anushka Sharma was seen riding pillion on a motorcycle without helmets for either of the riders.

Netizens condemned it and certain individuals carried it to the notification of the Mumbai Police by labeling the clasps on the police's Twitter handle. Taking cognisance of it, the police gave a challan against the vehicle rider alongside a fine of Rs 10,500, the authority said. " With a copy of the challan, Mumbai Traffic Police tweeted, "Challan has been issued to the driver under Sec 129/194(D), Sec 5/180 & Sec 3(1)181 MV Act along with a fine of Rs.10500 and been paid by the offender."
