Since 2016, archaeologists have been excavating the Garza archaeological site, and the most recent season of work revealed a sizable funerary structure. The building is situated in the Garza village, formerly known as Philadelphia village, which was founded in the third century BC as a result of Ptolemy II Philadelphus' agricultural reclamation project.

Numerous burial chambers, either rock cut or lined with stone, are found within the funerary building, which was built using stone blocks. The main structure's floor is tiled with coloured floor tiles that resemble a checkerboard and is decorated with lime mortar. In one of the wooden coffins, they also discovered a terracotta statue showing a syncretic Isis/Aphrodite.
