Are Innovative Engineering Programs Hindering Graduate Employability in India?
India's newer universities are introducing cutting-edge engineering programs, such as specialized postgraduate diplomas in Artificial Intelligence and accelerated eleven-month Machine Learning courses, to equip students for the future job market. However, Professor V Ramgopal Rao of BITS Pilani raises concerns about the potential limitations these programs impose on graduates. He argues that the rigid eligibility criteria for traditional master's programs and government jobs may render these graduates ineligible, restricting their career options. This discrepancy between the skills imparted by new-age degrees and the demands of the existing job landscape underscores a systemic challenge in India's education system.
