Former Argentine striker Martin Palermo is the only player to miss three penalties in one game. This happened in the 1999 Copa America match between Argentina and Colombia.

His first penalty rebounded off the crossbar, his second penalty went over and his third was saved by goalkeeper Miguel Calero. Colombia ended up winning the game 3-0.

At club level, Palermo played mainly for Boca Juniors and is the club's all-time top scorer with a total of 236 goals.
