Summer of 2022. A disappointment-ridden Arsenal is getting ready for the next season ahead. The team is strengthening with players like four-time Premier League winner Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.
The season predictions are rolling in from recognized journalists to every tiktok user who wants to give a voice to their opinion. The results are unanimous, predicting Arsenal to finish yet again outside the top four. You can hardly blame them. Last season Arsenal massacred their top-four dreams by losing to Newcastle and their North London rivals, Tottenham. The Gunners finished their season racking up 69 points by winning 22 games out of 38.
In July, any Arsenal fan would have said yes to finishing second the next season right behind Manchester City. After losing the final in Baku, every Mustafi minute, every foul throw in and not playing in the Champions League in six years, they one-hundred percent would have said yes. However having lost a few games at the finish line and ultimately losing the title to City, they might be hesitant to answer the same question today after spending more than 250 days of the season in the first place. Why is that you ask? It all comes down to perspective and to where you should shift your focus.
Arsenal is currently sitting second in the PL with the season's end just around the corner. Winning the league is probably out of the conversation now. In spite of everything this season for the Gunners was NOT a failure. Arsenal has 78 points with four more games still to go. They won 24 and only lost 4 games out of 34. William Saliba has become one of the biggest fan favourites in the team, solidifying that backline with Gabriel Magalhães. With Martinelli, Saka, Jesus, and Ødegaard, four players reached ten or more goals this season. ( At City Haaland has 35, next is Phil Foden with 10.)
Thankfully Arsenal fans seem to agree. They see the process and have the belief to know: There are great things laying ahead, just have the patience. Focus on the positives. Life is better that way. COYG.
