Aggressive and methodical.
Two words to describe our transfer window business so far. Perhaps the best window of business we’ve made as a club, which goes to show how far we have come as a club under Mikel Arteta. Foundations were slowly being built in 2020, and now we’re adding quality.
An unknown quality?
Kai Havertz adds depth and an unknown quality. He could explode and demonstrate the talent when eyes were on him during his time in Germany. A risky signing perhaps, but one worth possibly making if the opportunity is there to unlock something in Havertz.
Timber adds more than just cover
Jurrien Timber will provide defensive competition, but also add another layer of progressive output to our attacking play. He is at the top of the charts for passes, touches, and final third passes. These attributes are the types of characteristics that can seem priceless.
We get our man
And then the headline signing: Declan Rice. I describe this signing as a monumental moment for the club. Not for the price, but for the way this transfer has unravelled. Rice will have been on the list of every major club, but the reports of Arsenal being his first choice destination for his upcoming peak years shows the appeal the club have rebuilt. Rice wanted Arsenal. And we went all in to get our midfield monster.
Our talent are choosing to stay with us
More to come in this transfer window I imagine. I can’t end this piece without mentioning the work the club has done to keep our talent. Martinelli, Ramsdale, Saka, and Gabriel extended their stay with us. Reiss Nelson and William Saliba were next to confirm their future with us. Huge credit goes to the club and the way we have ensured the future of this squad is stable at its core. The future is bright, but the present is here for Arsenal Football Club.
