As a cardiologist I have some advice for general public on world health day.
Low sodium salts are promoted for blood pressure control. These salts are rich in potassium and may cause potentially dangerous build up of potassium in circulation amongst those who are taking certain class of medication for blood pressure control. Therefore these salts should not be added without first checking with your doctor that it is safe to do so. In most cases, a modest reduction of salt intake with adequate fruits and low fat dairy products in diet is all that are needed as dietary measures to control high blood pressure.
