What an inspiring journey, thank for sharing.
Anuradha Kar , 62 years old female.
I got diabetes after my two children were born
I also had a family history of the disease, my father had diabetes, so did my grandmother.
I think I was 32/33 years old then. I got anautoimmune for which I was prescribed steroids- 60 milligrams for nearly one year, two months. Steroids further aggrevated my diabetes. I was put on medication which increased with every passing day. The sugar levels were very erratic, so every new medicine was tested on me . There was never a lower dose, it just went higher, higher, higher. Mm-hmm. About 15/16 year back, I was put on insulin. It also started with small dosage, and I went up to hundred units a day.
I had put on a lot of weight. I was pretty fat. With diabetes came blood pressure, my kidneys got affected.
Each one of us reaches a time where we say enough is enough- it was that moment for me . My health affected me so I decided that as a patient I had to make a conscious effort to get better .
As patient has to want to get better . They have to be willing to make that effort to get better. It's easier to pop in medicine and stay under control. However to change the way you eat, to change the way you live, is a lot of effort and hard work. I also crave for things. I also sometimes want to have that pastry or ice cream but I know that my sugar for another five/six days will be haywire, so not to give in to that craving is mentally lot of effort.
When it comes to exercise, I am very lazy. I like to walk, so I go to the malls and walk because its smooth platform and it’s centrally air conditioned. So because of covid, these three years have been really difficult for me. I hardly walked, but did lot of stretching exercises at home and started meditating.
