The Assam Budget 2023-24 was presented today, March 16, by the State Finance Minister, Ajanta Neog at the Assembly.
FM announced that the government had taken many initiatives in the previous budgets to preserve and maintain religious institutions. The ongoing preservation and maintenance of Batadrava Than and birthplace of Madhabdev at Narayanapur will be completed this year, and both these places will become centres of art, culture and spirituality.
During the budget on Thursday, Neog announced that under the Assam Darshan scheme, 8000 new namghars would be preserved and maintained. The government also proposed to cover religious institutions having higher tourist footfalls and where common festivals are celebrated.
“₹2.5 lakh of fund per institution will be provided,” she further added.
Further, under the revamped Assam Darshan scheme an amount of ₹15 lakh each will be provided for ancient religious institutions like Namghar, Mandir, Mosque, Church, Gurudwara which are more than 100 years old.
₹180 crore has been allocated for the Assam Darshan scheme. Earlier, ₹10 lakh each was provided to 130 such institutions.
She further mentioned that drawing inspiration from Kashi-Vishwanath Corridor, the state Government will develop Kamakhya Corridor which would ease the movement of devotees and enhance the ambience by connecting it with the Brahmaputra river.
With a view to relive the historical glory of Rang Ghar, the Assam government will be taking up development of tourist amenities in an area of 83 bigha in the vicinity of Rang Ghar, announced FM.
Around ₹32 crore had already been released towards payment for land acquisition. The work will be started from April, 2023 at a cost of ₹107 crore, stated FM during the Assam Budget 2023-24.
