ATK Mohun Bagan rebranded to Mohun Bagan Super Giants!
ISL Giants ATK Mohun Bagan has been rebranded once again. The current Hero ISL Champions will be called Mohun Bagan Super Giants from the next season.
Club owner Sanjeev Goenka announced publicly that he is rebranding his club once again. The RPSG group owner made the announcement after ATKMB won the ISL title beating Bengaluru FC in the final today.
This is not the first time that the Kolkata-based ISL club is being rebranded. Starting off as Atletico de Kolkata in 2014, the club changed its name to ATK in 2016 after Atletico Madrid broke the partnership and left the ISL club.
In 2020, ATK merged with I-League club Mohun Bagan to form the new entity ATK Mohun Bagan. However, this was met by widespread protests from the Mohun Bagan supporters as they felt that their legendary club's identity was at stake.
The announcement of changing the club's name to Mohun Bagan Super Giants has brought a mixed reaction from the supporters. On one hand, they are happy that they are not associated with ATK anymore. However, "Super Giants" does not look very professional.
