Afghanistan women's football team, Melbourne Victory, played against (African women's national team) in a friendly match called (Hope) this morning. In the first half of this game, Nilab Mohammadi scored a goal for Afghanistan and in the second half, the Empowerment team tied the game and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Melbourne Victory team, which is third in the Women's Football League of the state of Victoria, Australia, had a good performance in this match. This game was held in the presence of Wahidullah Vaisi, the ambassador of Afghanistan in Australia, and Craig Foster, a former player of the Australian national football team and a human rights defender.
Nilab Mohammadi, dedicated her goal to the women and girls of Afghanistan and said: "Finally, after two years, we were able to enter the field with the tricolor flag of Afghanistan." I dedicate the goal I scored to the Afghan girls and lionesses in Afghanistan.
Wahidullah Vaisi, Afghanistan's ambassador to Australia, told that : "Afghan girls want to convey this message to the world that they will not give in to brutality and that they can work outside of Afghanistan as well." Each of these players has a story, how they got out of Afghanistan and what big problems they had."
Khaleda Popel, the former captain of the Afghanistan women's national football team, as the manager of the Afghanistan women's team in Australia, said after the match: "Unfortunately, the Taliban do not allow women to study and play sports." Football is the only way for us to fight for the rights of Afghan women. "We ask FIFA to support us instead of aligning with the Taliban."
She added: "Unfortunately, FIFA has turned away women football players from Afghanistan and does not even want to hear our voices."
Today's match between the Afghan women's team and the African team was held in Australia while this country is hosting the Women's World Cup with New Zealand in two days.
