The tenure of batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T Dilip ended after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
The BCCI thanked Dravid, Rathour, Mhambrey, and Dilip for their contributions. But there is a possibility of T Dilip continuing as India’s fielding coach.
Now with new tenure, and new head coach as Gautam Gambhir, the focus is now on the hiring of other coaches.
Generally, the apex body of the Indian cricket allows the head coach to pick his own support staff. But decision makers have rejected Gambhir’s first choice of bowling coach and fielding coach. Gambhir wanted former India pacer R Vinay Kumar as bowling coach but the board showed no interest.
Gambhir wanted Jonty Rhodes as fielding coach but the board again said no to his request. Rhodes has worked with various teams in the IPL. He was with Gambhir at the Lucknow Super Giants. But the BCCI doesn’t want a foreigner coach in the support staff. India have been functioning with the local support staff, and the board does not want to change the policy.
