Ben Affleck is reportedly set to star as Hulk Hogan in a new film titled "Gawker."
Ben Affleck is reportedly set to star as Hulk Hogan in the upcoming film "Gawker," which will depict the high-profile lawsuit between Hogan and the website Gawker over the publication of a sex tape he was unaware was being filmed.
Affleck will take on the role of Hogan, with Matt Damon cast as PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel. The screenplay, penned by Oscar-winner Chris Randolph ("The Big Short"), is adapted from Ryan Holiday's 2018 book *Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, and the Anatomy of Intrigue*.
The film will explore Hogan's lawsuit against Gawker, which had published the tape filmed by Hogan's former friend, Bubba the Love Sponge. Thiel secretly financed Hogan's lawsuit in retaliation for Gawker's negative coverage of him. Hogan won the case, resulting in a $140 million damages award and Gawker's eventual bankruptcy and closure.
No director is yet attached to "Gawker," but production is slated to begin in January 2025.
