Women will soon be allowed to swim topless in public swimming pools after a ruling by Berlin authorities, reported media.

As per media reports, this step has been taken after a woman who was expelled from an outdoor pool for sunbathing topless took legal action.

"As a result of a successful discrimination complaint, the Berlin bathing establishments will in future apply their house and bathing regulations in a gender-equitable manner. The background to this is the complaint of a woman who had contacted the ombudsman's office of the State Office for Equal Treatment - against discrimination because, like men, she was not allowed to swim "topless" in a swimming pool in Berlin, although the house and bathing regulations of the bathing establishments do not gender-specific stipulations and only prescribes the wearing of “commercial swimwear”. After the discrimination complaint has been dealt with again, topless swimming should also be possible for female people or for people with a breast read as a woman," read an official release.
