Catalans Dragons continue their unbeaten run to the Betfred Super League campaign with a gritty 18-10 win against Wigan Warriors.
Catalans opened the scoring in the sixth minute with multiple sets on the Wigan line ended up with Manu M’au falling over the line to hit the home side with the first points against them since the opening game of the campaign. Adam Keighran adds the conversion. 0-6.
Wigan hit back with multiple sets of their own, but it resulted in a knock on five metres from the try line. Harry Smith kicked a great ball over for Liam Marshall to chase but it resulted in a Goal Line Drop Out to the Warriors.
Wigan’s pressure continued as the home side got a 40/20 to get them further up the pitch but it didn’t amount to anything. Eight minutes later, Catalans added to their lead with a penalty goal from Keighran .0-8.
Seven minutes before the break, Catalans got their second try after centre Arthur Romano goes over as the Dragons worked left from their scrum. Keighran missed the conversion. 0-12.
The last bit of action was try scorer Ma’u hitting Cade Cust late and getting sin-binned for 10 minutes. Smith converted the resulting penalty to end the half 2-12.
Four minutes into the second half, Wigan scored their first try of the game with Smith running onto a brilliant offload from Kaide Ellis. Smith added the extras to his own try. 8-12.
10 minutes after his try, Smith adds another two points to Wigan’s tally with a penalty goal to take the Dragons’ lead down to two points.10-12.
Referee Marcus Griffiths went to the video ref for the first time in the 62nd minute to see if Ma’u was in for his second. He collected a great kick from Tyrone May and bundled over to extend the Dragons’ lead. Keighran added the extras.10-18.
It looked like Wigan were going to score to make it a closer contest as Toby King looked sure to go over in the corner but was forced into touch by Tom Johnstone to confirm the two points for the French outfit.
