Wigan Warriors go into the international break top of the Betfred Super League table with a comfortable 22-6 win against bottom side Wakefield Trinity.
Tries from Liam Marshall, Abbas Miski, Ethan Havard and Bevan French saw the Warriors brush past a poor Wakefield side, who are still without a victory.
Wigan opened the scoring seven minutes in with a nice cut-out ball from French that confused the Wakefield defenders and helped Marshall fall over the line to score his first try since his hat-trick against Castleford Tigers in early March. Harry Smith added the extras. 6-0.
Mason Lino thought he was hard done by as his 40/20 attempt wasn’t seen as successful by the officials. The resulting possession for the Warriors came to nothing.
It was the other winger’s turn to score as Miski received the cut-out ball from French and beat two men to go over. Smith added the extras. 12-0.
Marshall looked like he was over for his second but great defending from Lino and Lee Kershaw kept the winger out.
It looked like a simple collection from a grubber kick for Kershaw but great pressure from Jake Wardle forced the ball out and Havard went in underneath the posts. Smith added the extras and that was the end of the first 40. 18-0.
Wigan started the half on top, but Willie Isa was then sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes after a dangerous tackle on Harry Bowes.
Wakefield finally broke down the Wigan defensive line while Isa was off the field, and it resulted in Jay Pitts crashing over for the try. Lino added the extras. 18-6.
French completed his hat-trick of try contributions with his 100th career try. Miski looked like he was going to himself until help arrived and French finished it in the corner. Smith missed the conversion and that ended the scoring. 22-6.
Wigan will head to Hull FC after the break as Wakefield head to Warrington to try and break their winning duck this campaign.
