Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara championed his new signings after their performance to become the first team to beat Wigan Warriors at the DW Stadium in a regular season fixture since 2021.
The Dragons ground out a solid 18-10 victory against the Warriors, combatting the cold, rain and sleet for the entire contest.
The former England head coach praised his new signings Manu Ma’u, Adam Keighran and Tom Johnstone, who all made crucial moves in the game to take the two points back to France. When asked about how impressed he has been with his newest recruits. McNamara said:” Those have been quality additions to the group, I thought Tyrone May was outstanding for us, we had a makeshift number seven at the side of him in Keighran."
"Although he’s not a new player, he’s come off a significant injury from the World Cup and he controlled that game well tonight.”
He also talked about Ma’u’s struggles off the pitch and why his two-try performance was so important.
He said:” He’s class. He had to overcome the death of his father a couple of weeks back, he had to fly back. We took him out of the game last week against Hull FC, just to look after him physically and mentally at that stage. Two good tries tonight where it was difficult to score points.”
