HOW CAN YOU HELP THEM?
1 Let them know that you're interested in understanding their situation instead of just trying to solve their problems.
2 Don't judge or criticize. Let go of things said during tough times, especially if they've apologized or said they didn't mean it.
3 Don't assume mood changes mean they're unwell, everyone's different. If unsure, talk to them to check.
4 Ask open questions to learn more about how they're feeling. For example "what do you need me to understand about it?"
5 Avoid downplaying their experiences. Saying phrases like "everyone goes through tough times" might make them feel like you haven't understood how hard things are for them.
Remember - It's a lifelong condition and can severely affect the life of the patient and the caregivers.
