Bisexuality vs. Pansexuality
Recently, there has been debate over whether bisexuality or pansexuality is more "correct"- when, in reality, they are seperate sexualities, but attracted to the same genders. Not confusing at all!
Bi- means two, and bisexuality has always meant "attracted to both genders." As people have become more comfortable with gender expression and identity, but, the term has become somewhat clouded.
The confusion of bisexuality in modern gender identity grew a new sexuality, Pansexuality. Pan- means all, and means "attracted to all genders." So what's the difference?
Bisexuality, though originally meaning "both," no longer means that. The term was used when it was uncommon to hear about anything other than man or woman, and many bisexual people today confirm that they are attracted to all genders.
The difference between the two is that bisexual people still see gender and are attracted to people based on their gender, whereas pansexual people are attracted to people without gender having an impact at all. So, for example, a bisexual person may prefer relationships with men over women. A pansexual person will never have a preference for one gender over another because it isn't taken in to account when they're looking for a partner.
